Panyu - Guangzhou’s best kept secret.

The main reasons why we choose to purchase homes in Panyu is because it is the only place in Guangzhou that has clean air, has all the conveniences of downtown, is the closest area to Hong Kong and is still only 30 minutes from the city center.

Because Panyu is located outside of the city center and the government has restricted factory construction the air in Panyu is 75% better than that of Guangzhou. We always have blue skies and the dust is a lot less than downtown, so keeping our home clean is easier. Not having to deal with chemical pollutants and factory waste is something that we feel strongly about for our children.

Because there are over 10,000 expat families living in Panyu many businesses have been developed to serve these residents. Within a ten minute radius from my home there are 7 international grocery stores, with one being located at Agile, several western and international restaurants one being Gail’s American restaurant (delivery), McDonalds, pizza hut, KFC, The Greenery, JP Tappenaki, The white Tiger Restaurant, Alex’s Café etc., 20 bakeries, two international schools (Clifford and Canadian International) western size clothing and shoes and many English speaking retailers and service businesses. Most expats live in Agile, Clifford Estates, Global Villa, Country Garden, Star River and Riverside Garden. Out of these properties 5 of them are within 5 to 10 minutes of my home. All properties offer shuttle buses every 15 minutes into downtown plus buses to MTR stations, ferry ports,


Agile and the surrounding properties are only 30 minutes from two ferry ports to Hong Kong. Nansha and liang hua shan are two ferry ports that offer hourly travel to and from Hong Kong. Further these ferry ports offer shuttle buses to area hotels and properties making a total travel time to Hong Kong 2 hours. Plus the schedules run at different times giving different departure options. Currently the Guangzhou Government has just started construction of the new Hong Kong/Guangzhou rail station 15 minutes from Agile. This station will go to and from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau.


The great thing about Panyu is because of all the major highways that have been built it is actually faster to get to most downtown international schools than from downtown. School busses for the American school, Utaloy School and British schools pick up from Agile, Clifford estates, Global Villa and Country Garden. The relatively arrive the school within 30-40 minutes. A new highway due to be completed by the end of the year will allow arrival to the new American School in just 15 minutes!

Social Groups

Panyu has the panyu expat women’s club, which is a group of expat women that meet twice a month for coffee, outings and social events. (an outshoot of GWIC) Panyu also has a men’s golf group that get together to play golf monthly. There is also a Panyu children’s play group that gets together weekly. Communities are very close therefore it is easy to make friends.
